Four annotated online pictures:

This photograph is of, what seems to look like, a group of feathers all filled with a deep ocean shade of teal. The feathers create a pattern as there are several of them in this image, overlapping eachother whilst the feathers individually all contain patterns of lines. The lines in the feathers spread from one side to the other horizontally, continuing this pattern all the way down. Because this image has been taken of literally just some feathers close up, it allows the audience to focus on the detail hidden within whilst also questioning what kind of animal these could belong too with feathers of such an extraordinary colour.

This is another photograph that portrays natural pattern like the one above. The pattern originates from the center, expanding in size the further away it  shifts from the middle of the flower. The pattern is natural because the flower didn't plan to have these features, it just occurred from nature. I believe that the petals not all being the same size creates a flower that stands out amongst it's fellow plants. The flower has been formed into a ball, with no petals being outsiders. It's almost, perfect you could say.

This photograph above is an example of manmade pattern; the sequence of windows were purposely created to form this arrangement. The window cut outs and rooftop companions are all equal in size so the pattern is portrayed as being spotless and precise. You wouldn't feel uncomfortable looking at these features on a building because there isn't one that's out of place; that's what a pattern is.

For me, this photograph demonstrates natural and manmade pattern all in one. The fence wires have been tied with one another to create a sequence of holes all around the same size and shape. This fence would've been a pattern on it's own. However, in this photograph natural pattern decided it wanted to be a duo with manmade pattern. The outcome of this was a sheet of snow falling from the sky and landing evenly on each piece of wire in this photo. It's quite captivating how the same amount of snow is piled up on each wire sloping vertically left, making the audience wonder how this combination was not planned in the slightest. I also love snow in general, so this photograph is quite an incredible one indeed.

My definition of 'pattern': A design portraying a repeated sequence produced naturally or deliberately.
