Connecting Essay 1

                                                                   Internet Photograph

This photograph of a man and perhaps his son looking out to the sea is an intriguing photograph. The viewer will want to know what it is that the little boy is pointing at, creating a sense of mystery. The dad's body position looks relaxed, rather than securing his son's safety by having his arm around him which I'm sure many parents would be doing. It looks as though they're both delicately perched on a rock above the ocean, perhaps sight seeing which means that this picture will become a memory for them. It's evident in the picture that the night is approaching because the man and the little boy are silhouettes, it's getting dark and the only bright features of this picture would be the scenery infront of the two subjects.

                                                                       My Photograph

This is my own photograph that I captured of George planted inbetween even amounts of scenery. He's facing the lake, which could portray him as being an individual who enjoys the outdoors and fresh air. People usually travel to tranquil areas when craving some head space; the lake would be a perfect spot to clear your mind. It was an extremely sunny day when this photo was taken, and because the sun was shining down on George it turned him into a silhouette as the camera focused on the bright background. I was extremeky stunned by this as I admire the way this picture appeared. The viewer will notice the human figure with no features and then move on to studying the rest of the photograph's features instead. The view being interesting increases the level of appeal that this picture contains.

                                                                    The Connection

The connections shared between these two photographs are so immense that it could almost look as though I've been inspired by the idea and the location; I haven't. Both of these photographs have silhouettes as their subjects, as these are evidently what me and the fellow photographer were trying to capture. My model and their models may not be performing the same frozen action in the picture, however both are looking out to forms of tranquility; the water (an incredible mind clearer). The viewers can't actually see what George could perhaps be looking at in my picture because he's facing straight forwards, causing his body to block what he could be admiring. The viewer also can't see what the father and son are looking at in the internet image because they're positioned at a slight angle, so what they're studying in the distance isn't noticeable in the photograph. Therefore, both of these images explore senses of mystery and secrecy. Furthermore, both subjects in the photographs are located in the centre so that the viewer studies them first, rather than them being arranged in a different section of the frame which would avoid them being the first thing someone's attention is drawn to.
