Work Diary - Walk 1

Evaluation

During Thursday's session when our class went out on an autumn walk, I was asked to take pictures of autumn colours along the way along with photographs demonstrating 'journey', and also some extras to add to my back of head portraiture pictures. Autumn is my favourite season out of the four, so I found this topic an extremely enjoyable one and also something I could apply many creative skills too. I get entertainment out of taking photographs, so when I'm asked to take photographs of things that I'm interested in it makes a session so much more interesting and amusing. I was able to take many pictures during our walk so fully covered the topic. I made sure that I collected a photograph from each new piece of scenery we visited to ensure I didn't miss any autumnal feature out. Taking pictures of autumn colours was my most favourite out of the three set tasks as we passed so many heaps of leaves that were just filled to the brim with colour and pattern. I altered the angle on some photographs to create a more interesting twist on a picture and I thought that this was another successful idea of mine. The only downfall of the walk would have to be the fact that sometimes the types of photos I was able to take was slightly limited. I felt I was collecting a mountain of leave pictures and I didn't want to become too repetitive. Nevertheless I continued snapping away at these.

I loved this photograph of autumn colours. I like that there's hardly any green in it which thoroughly demonstrates the season. Green leaves are associated with spring and summer whereas red and oranges tinted leaves are identified as autumn and winter colours. The leaves look crisp from where I've gone so close to them. I also like the angle this pictur has been taken from as it has a slight depth to it, the background gradually blurring the futher out the leaves travel.

This was a picture that I photographed for the topic 'journey'. This picture clearly portrays someone's shadow, singularly. They're experiencing a journey by themselves. The amount of shadows would influence this picture. A single shadow creates the feel of an independant person wanting to discover things alone, whereas a group picture would demonstrate perhaps a group of friends sharing their experiences with eachother. Some may say this picture could portray a lonely journey, but not everyone needs company to enjoy experiences. I also like the fact that this is a shadow of a person as the viewer can't tell if this picture is of a male or female, what ethnicity they are etc. This simply indicates them on a journey. Of course this shadow is mine, but these are the interpretations I'd gather from this picture if it was my first time seeing it.

Progression

I'll soon find out what things I do differently in our second walk next Thursday; probably wear warmer footwear so that I don't become uncomfortable throughout the walk and be put off from taking photographs. On a more photographical note however, I will most likely attempt to take more leave pictures with autumn colours, but this time from even more bizarre angles. Perhaps I will attempt to take upside down pictures to create a bit of edge within a picture. I'm going to look on the internet for some autumn colours portrayed in photographs that could inspire me for the second walk. The pictures that I've inserted below are pieces of photography that stood out to me as being pictures that I could capture, and I might just experiment with on Thursday's second walk.

These two pictures below inspire me for the topic journey. The car indicates the actual travelling side of things whereas the signpost signifies the whole 'lost' asepct of a journey, as they don't all go to plan and at times we all become a little misplaced on an adventure.
